2 out of 5 stars Solid Mount with Terrible Instructions and Company Support   October 27, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Did a lot of research and bought this mount on the advice from my high end AV store. It is a very solid mount and the chrome rails are a nice touch making it easy to slide laterally to center on wall. My issues are with the instructions and company support (or lack thereof).

Following the directions, I attached the mount frame to the wall. The included paper template was completely useless and the provided tape actually pulled some paint off the wall. I deferred to my tape measure and level.

This mount was recommended for my model Samsung TV on the Omnimount website. However, when I opened the box and checked the TV list to determine which bolts were appropriate, it wasn't listed. A quick check of the website and I found the size listed on the page for my TV (so far so good). However, it became immediately apparent that the bolts listed were too short, and spacers would be needed despite the website's claim to the contrary.

Once I figured out on my own which spacers and bolts to use, I installed the brackets. Unfortunately, the smallest of the spacers were still too big resulting in the brackets standing off from the back of the TV by 1/4 inch instead of sitting flush. I would have packed the whole thing up and returned it at this point, but since the first step in the instructions was to mount the frame to the wall, I already had 4 gigantic holes drilled and lag bolts screwed in. So, I contacted Omnimount by email and asked if this standoff was safe and acceptable, but NEVER got a response. I was subsequently assured by my salesperson at the AV store that it was fine.

What should have been a 2 hour project ended up taking a week. I'm now reasonably confident that the TV is secure. I can (and do) handle most any home maintenance project, but having a new $2500 TV at stake makes you want to take your time and be sure you're doing everything right. Between Omnimount's mediocre instructions and lack of response, I was left in the dark.

Bottom line: The instructions, while fine if everything fits ideally, are very sparse on details, particularly when it comes to anything out of the norm. There is also no mention of the fact that the bracket rails that attach to the TV are vertically adjustable (which is nice), but makes it very difficult to get the TV level and the mounting height precisely where you want it. It's a trial and error process, each time requiring you to take the TV off the wall. Finally, Omnimount's lack of any response is inexcusable. They may make good mounts, but I will never buy another. Next time I'll go with Peerless or Sanus.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for my 42' Samsung LCD   October 4, 2007
This is the only mount that I could find that would work that was a reasonable price.
