Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The DVD-P231 provides the smooth, progressive scan image which eliminates even the slightest hint of blur or distortion, bringing new realism to your DVD selection.

Amazon.com
Samsung's titanium-finished and remarkably affordable DVD-P231 features high-end component-video outputs, built-in MP3 and WMA decoding for home-brewed CD compilations, and even compatibility with JPEG image CDs and Kodak Picture CDs. Now you can enjoy a slideshow of digital pictures right there on the television.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-P231 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

The DVD-P231 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Another handy feature is EZ View letterbox eliminator, which lets you enjoy full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when watching widescreen DVDs.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, remote batteries, user's manual, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, and warranty information.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Player! Plays everything!   December 3, 2008
This is such a great unit that I now own 2 of them. It plays anything I put into it. And I've no problems at all with it. It was a great investment and just works great all the way around. To date, it's my favorite dvd player.

4 out of 5 stars Mine works fine...   July 7, 2008
I got mine December of 2002~and it works fine. It's always worked fine. I'm sad to head a bunch of people had trouble with theirs...I use it three or four times a month, and it's never given me trouble...

1 out of 5 stars Even after almost no use, it is now broken   July 20, 2006
I bought this unit for my mother-in-law, and I think she used it twice in the last three years. Now it's dead. I won't buy Samsung again.

4 out of 5 stars Not as bad as they say, but it's not high end equipment to begin with   January 23, 2006
I purchased one of these several years ago for my office reception area. It has played, and played, and played and still looks great, never a problem since purchased in late 2001. The picture is very clear and sound is average for a low end unit. I have been in the professional video and audio production business for 24 years and I am a video/audio technician. We have professional DVD players and recorders in my studio and they really don't look that much better than the Samsung DVD-P230, 231, or the 331. It's a toss-up which one of the Samsung DVD players I would buy now! But if you want to spend a lot of money then yes, go with a high end Sony or Pioneer, they will be glad to take your money too.

1 out of 5 stars Heap of Junk   October 10, 2005
This was a replacement for another Samsung that I previously owned that had tons of problems. In fact, I got this DVD Player refurbished as a result of Class Action suite against Samsung (several years back).

Well this replacement was just as bad, and Samsung got away with another lemon. I had intalled this particular player in my guest room; hence, it wasn't used as much (I've used it about 6 times) and after awhile, it just stop reading any of my DVD discs.

Unfortunately, I can not have it replaced since it only had 90 days warranty on it. Since this is the second time I had bad DVD Player from Samsung, I will never again patronize Samsung products. I'ts a waste of money.
